Here are my thoughts -
ReplyDeleteJohn is certainly taking the right step - however, the reality is that prospective employers will most likely Google his name. This means that the site needs to have descriptive meta tags, not use images instead of text for his resume, etc.. he should have invested in someone (~$250 dollars) to get him at least the essential design so that he can avoid having a site that looks like a Monster.com template. This is your reputation, it's important to invest in how you present yourself. Personally, the site doesn't lend itself any additional credibility - but I really hope it works out for him.
I agree with your assessment of the "descriptive meta tags." This would certainly help if an employer Google'd him. However, I DO think the site lends immense credibility to John. Most business professionals outside of the Web/Graphic Design industry don't even have a Web site.
